Toilet Training: A Fluid Process
Recorded in 2024
Early and consistent toilet training for autistic individuals can have a significant impact on long-term social, emotional, and vocational outcomes. The acquisition of toilet training skills can enhance independence, self-confidence, personal hygiene, and community participants while reducing discomfort, stigmatization, and vulnerability to abuse. In this presentation, Dr. Shannon Arthur outlines the developmental prerequisites for toilet training, key variables to consider when tailoring toilet training programs to clients and provides an overview of existing literature of toilet training for autistic individuals. Additionally, she also highlights ongoing research further evaluating evidence-based practices in this area.
