Sexuality Education for Individuals with ASD: How can ABA help?

Abstract:
Sexuality education for individuals with autism spectrum disorders is an important, but often overlooked part of teaching. This talk reviews the need for sexuality education as it pertains particularly to challenges related to autism. It highlights behaviour analytic teaching methods and how to apply these to teaching sexuality skills. This talk emphasizes evidence-based teaching and individualization of targets to ensure effective teaching.

Participants will identify components of autism spectrum disorders that are particularly related to a need for sexuality education.
Participants will define “component skills” and discuss how they pertain to complex sexuality skills.
Participants will discuss how stimulus control relates to sexual behaviour.
